AI Answering Service for Pest Control: Bed Bugs, Wasps, Rodents and Recurring Service Calls
An AI answering service for pest control picks up every call, day or night, says it is an AI assistant, and books the job. It also texts you a summary and can be set to send true emergencies to a human on your list.
Pest calls do not sort themselves. A wasp nest over the front door, bed bugs in a bedroom, mice in the pantry and a customer who wants to skip a quarterly visit all ring the same line. This page shows how each kind of call can be handled, which ones you can send to a person, and what that costs.
Short answer: Riot Digital is a done-for-you AI phone front desk for Minnesota and Wisconsin service businesses. For a pest control company it answers every call 24/7, says it is an AI, collects the address and the pest problem, and books the job. You set the urgent-call rules. The Front Desk plan is $397 a month.
Why pest control calls are hard to miss
Your techs are in crawl spaces, attics and trucks. The office is often one or two people. Pest callers are worried and want an answer today, so they call down the list until someone picks up.
Pest work also has two kinds of value. A one-time call for a wasp nest is a single job. A new quarterly or monthly customer is a job that repeats. A missed call can lose either.
What the numbers say about unanswered calls
These figures come from surveys and call data, not from pest control companies specifically. We found no pest-control-only figure from a primary source.
CallRail surveyed 1,000 U.S. consumers (published September 25, 2025). It found "42% of consumers leave a voicemail" and "21% immediately call another business" when a business does not answer (CallRail).
Invoca's Home Services Lead Conversion Benchmarks Report 2026 (July 2026) says "52% of callers to home services businesses speak with a person." Pest control is one of the nine segments in that report, but we did not see a separate pest figure (Invoca).
Read together: many callers do not get a person, fewer than half leave a message, and about one in five calls someone else right away. Your own call log is the number that counts. That is why we start with a free audit.
The pest control call triage table
This is the part the top-ranking pages leave out. It sorts common pest calls by urgency and by when they tend to show up in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The urgency and timing columns are common-sense patterns from the trade, not statistics. The two seasonal notes with a source are marked. Your rules decide what happens on each call, and you can change them.
| Call | Urgency | Timing in MN and WI | What the AI front desk does | Goes to a human? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bed bugs | High for the caller, rarely a safety issue. | Year-round, indoors. | Says it is an AI, asks which rooms, whether it is a rental or a hotel, how long it has been going on, and whether anyone has treated it. Books the inspection. Does not diagnose from a description. | Only if your rules say so, for example for multi-unit buildings. |
| Wasps and hornets | High when the nest is near a door, play area or someone is allergic. | Summer into fall. The University of Minnesota Extension notes yellow jackets are drawn to gardens in late summer and fall. | Asks where the nest is, how big, and whether anyone has been stung. It can be set to tell a caller with a severe reaction to call 911. Takes the address and number. | Can be set to yes for same-day nest removal, or to book the first open slot. |
| Rodents (mice and rats) | Medium to high. | The University of Minnesota Extension (page dated August 25, 2026) says mice "may be looking for a safe and warm space in your shed, garage, camper, or home" as temperatures drop. | Asks where noises or droppings are, how long, and whether there are pets or children in the home. Books the visit. | Usually no. You get a text summary. |
| Termite inspection | Medium, but it is often tied to a home sale. | Whenever a closing date sets the clock. | Asks the address, whether it is for a sale or a concern, and any closing deadline. Books the inspection. | Can be set to yes if there is a closing date inside your lead time. |
| Ants, spiders and general pests | Low to medium. | Warm months. | Asks the pest if known, the location, the size of the home, and whether the caller wants a one-time or recurring plan. Books the job. | No. |
| Recurring service changes (skip, reschedule, cancel) | Low for the caller, high for you, because a cancel is a lost recurring customer. | Year-round, and often around winter and holidays. | Takes the name, address and the change asked for, and passes it to the office the same day. It does not process a cancel on its own. | Yes, the office decides. |
| Wildlife (squirrels, bats, raccoons in the attic) | Medium to high. | Varies. | Asks what was seen or heard, where, and for how long. Books the visit or passes it to you if you do not offer wildlife work. | Can be set to yes. |
| Commercial account (restaurant, property manager) | High, a health inspection or a tenant complaint may be on a clock. | Year-round. | Takes the company, site, contact and issue, and follows your commercial rules. | Can be set to yes. |
| Price shopper: how much for a treatment? | Low. | Any time. | Says it is an AI, takes the details, and says someone will confirm the price. Gives only prices you approve. | Only if you want to quote. |
Every call ends with a text summary to you.
Seasons in Minnesota and Wisconsin
Winter slows outdoor pests. Spring and summer bring outdoor pests. Fall brings rodents indoors. Your own call log by month will show your real mix, and we use it when we build your rules.
Set the rules before your busy stretch. Decide who gets true emergencies, what counts as urgent, and what can wait for the next open slot.

AI front desk vs. voicemail vs. a human answering service
| Voicemail | Human answering service | Riot Digital AI front desk | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Answers live | no | yes, during their staffing | yes, every call, 24/7 |
| Books the job | no | often takes a message only | yes |
| Text back to missed callers | no | depends on the service | yes, once carrier registration clears |
| Urgent calls | caller waits | passed on by an agent, scripts vary | can be set to go to a human on your list, by your rules |
| Summary to you | a voicemail you must play | varies | a text summary |
| Pricing basis | free | varies by provider; get it in writing | flat monthly, no per-message fees |
We do not list competitor prices because we can't verify them. Ask any provider for rates in writing, and ask what its agents may say about pest identification and safety. A human service can be a good fit if you want a person on every call. The trade-off is that you manage their script and read their messages.

How we start: shadow mode, then live
We begin with a 7-day shadow mode build. In shadow mode the system runs on your after-hours calls only, so you can hear what it does before it touches daytime calls. Nothing changes for your daytime callers during that week.
It is done for you. You do not configure software.
- Free audit. Send 30 days of call history and your average job values. You get one page back showing how many calls went unanswered and what that likely cost you.
- Build. We write your script from your website and a short form: the pests you treat, your service area, hours, and your rules for urgent calls and who gets them.
- Shadow mode. 7 days, after-hours calls only. You review what it did.
- Go live. You own your number, accounts and data.
- Tune-in. For 30 days we review calls with you. After that you get a monthly report.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI answering service for pest control?
It is a phone service that answers your calls with AI instead of voicemail. It says it is an AI, collects the address and the pest problem, books the job, and texts you a summary. Urgent calls can be set to go to a human.
Can an AI answering service handle a wasp nest or a bed bug call?
It can take the address, the problem and a callback number, mark the call urgent, and follow your rule. It does not identify pests or give treatment advice. Urgent routing can be set to send these calls to your on-call person. You decide what counts as urgent.
How much does an AI answering service for a pest control company cost?
Riot Digital's Front Desk is $397 a month with a $497 setup, or $0 setup with a 3-month commitment. It covers up to 500 call minutes a month. The Office Manager is $797 a month with a $1,500 setup and up to 1,000 minutes.
Will callers know they are talking to an AI?
Yes. The AI says it is an AI up front. It takes details and books the job under your rules.
Does it work with my pest control software?
Job software connections are part of The Operator tier, starting from $3,000 setup. The Front Desk and The Office Manager do not include them. They send you a text summary of each call.
What is shadow mode?
Shadow mode is a 7-day build period. The system runs on after-hours calls only, so you can review it before full launch.
Does it work in Minnesota and Wisconsin?
Yes. Riot Digital is based in Prior Lake, Minnesota, and serves service businesses in both states. The script is built from your website and your service area.
